THE STATUS AND IMPORTANCE OF EARNING A LIVELIHOOD IN ISLAM

Abstract

Earning a livelihood is regarded as both a fundamental duty and a form of worship.Islam encourages its followers to engage in productive activities and to contribute positively to society.The Prophet Muhammad(peace be upon Him) has highlighted the value of hardwork and self-reliance,teaching that is better to work and earn ones living than to depend on others.The faith underscores the dignity of labour,emphasizing that seeking lawful earning is important for individual’s self respect,family support and social contribution,The Quran and Hadith repeatedly encourage Muslims to engage in honest and productive work,viewing it as means of maintaining economic independence and fulfilling ones obligation towards others.This research aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the significance and principles of earning a livelihood in Islam and explores the significance of lawful(halal) earnings and the balance between religious duties and worldly responsibilities.The conclusions to be drawn from this research underscores that haram earnings can lead to societal harm and corrupts the individual’s soul .The teachings advocate for a balance lifestyle that accommodates both spiritual growth and material well being. There arises some key questions  about the religious obligations of earning that what is the significance of earning a livelihood in Islamic teachings?How does Islam balance religious duties and worldly responsibilities?How does Islam differentiate between lawful (halal) and unlawful(haram) earnings.
