Methodology of Ghareeb ul Quran and its Role in Understanding Quran

Abstract

Ghareeb ul Quran is a term used to refer the vocabulary in the Quranic text whose meaning is to be carefully elaborated. It is also defined as referring to those obscure words whose usage has become uncommon overtime. Interpretation of Quran without authentic and valid knowledge about Ghareeb-ul-Quran is strictly prohibited as it may lead to serious mistakes in Quranic exegesis. The scholarly work in lexicology and etymology of Arabic language has been started from the very beginning of Islam .Ghareeb ul Quran by Ibn e Qutaiba and by Ibe e Aziz are considered to be legacy sources, but Mufardat  ul Quran by Imam Raghib is the most famous one .In this study the general methodology of these books is being discussed which include Prophetic interpretation, Dictation of the fluent rural(Bedouin) people, Findings of Abdullaah ibn Abbas and Citing witnesses from classical agnostic Arabic poetry. After that it is explained that how Ghareeb ul Quran helps to understand many obscure issues regarding interpretation of Quran and may lead to resolve the contradictions as well.
